Learning about weather through musical play!
Weather is an intangible, complex phenomenon comprising elements like precipitation and temperature, but it becomes more accessible when broken down into interactive, sensory experiences. Our collaborative project between Georgia Tech and the Children's Museum of Atlanta leverages musical play to enhance engagement, curiosity, and retention of ideas through embodied interaction. This innovative exhibit features a large window display that visualizes changing weather conditions, controlled by three musical instruments: a set of cymbals, a rain stick, and a xylophone. Each instrument maps to a specific weather element, inviting children to explore cause and effect through sound and motion. Designed for children aged 3-8, the exhibit fosters creativity and learning through play, demonstrating how modern museums can spark educational curiosity and innovation by integrating interactive technology.
